The Engagement
Mervyn's, a middle-scale department store chain founded in 1949 in San Lorenzo, California and owned by Target Corporation (then Dayton-Hudson Corporation) from 1978 to 2004, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation in October 2008 after Sun Capital Partners' ownership failed to stabilize the business. The company announced it would close all remaining locations by the end of 2008. James Schaye, through Hudson Capital Partners, managed the liquidation of the chain's inventory across 177 stores in seven states — California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, and New Mexico.
