The Engagement

The Engagement

Whitehall Jewelers, a specialty jewelry chain founded in 1895 as Marks Bros. with nearly 400 stores and more than a century of operating history, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June 2008 after exhaustive efforts to find a buyer or secure fresh equity proved unsuccessful. Hudson Capital Partners, alongside Great American Group, Silverman Jeweler Consultants, and Gordon Brothers Group, was appointed to manage the liquidation. James Schaye, president and CEO of Hudson Capital Partners, noted at the time that the firm was experiencing "the most active period of liquidation sales in 10 years." The sale involved all 373 Whitehall store locations across 39 states, including 78 locations previously acquired from Friedman's Jewelers, and was expected to last approximately four and a half months.

This engagement was led by Eaton Hudson founder James Schaye through Hudson Capital Partners, the predecessor firm whose institutional track record is now represented under the Eaton Hudson banner.

The Eaton Hudson Advantage

The Whitehall liquidation — executed back-to-back with the Friedman's engagement by the same core team — represented one of the most complex specialty retail liquidations in jewelry industry history. The Eaton Hudson Jewelry Advisory division, now led by the former executives of Silverman Consultants who co-managed both engagements, carries that institutional expertise forward in every fine jewelry disposition we undertake today.
